Infants often go through extreme discomfort during the time they undergo teething. This causes them to cry, drool and put various different things in their mouth. As a parent, you would do anything to help ease this discomfort your little one is facing. You may be able to find some remedies and solutions available at a baby boutique and in some cases consult a medical professional for additional help.

Ways Of Soothing The Pain Associated

Teething is a natural process which all children go through. This normally ranges between 3 to 4 months up to about 3 years. The first few are found to be the most painfully and often require something to ease the pain. There are some common remedies which parents have practiced throughout the years and have been found to be widely effective. Some of them include the use of a baby teether and others involve some activities you can carry out.

The first method used is to rub the baby’s gums down with your finger. You should make sure that your finger is properly cleaned or use a moistened piece of gauze. The pressure will provide a soothing effect. The baby’s mouth should also be kept clean at all times and check for any infections or swelling which would require immediate medical intervention. Be careful not allow your little one to put potentially harmful things in the mouth. Alternatively, you could use a mild oral ointment or over-the-counter painkiller medication. But stay away from pain relievers which include Benzocaine which even has an FDA issued warning against it. The application of cold soon after is also found to be helpful. You could use any of the following methods for this purpose:

  • Give your child some frozen solids such as frozen fruits
  • Use of a cold washcloth
  • Avoid giving a baby ice cubes which could be a choking hazard

Use Of Baby Teethers For Infants

A wide variety of baby teethers can be found at almost any baby boutique. A chilled teether is also effective in cooling the affected area but make sure the teether is not chilled. Extreme cold could be harmful, therefore should be avoided. Read carefully what the teether is made of before you purchase one for use. A safe teether would be free of heavy metals, PVC, BPA, Phthalates and other harmful compounds and should be designed in such a way to prevent a choking hazard.
