1 . Your recent career move has forced you (rightfully) to shift focus from blogging to, oh, I don’t know… major life-changing events. Did I mention I got a fabulous new position working from home full time? It’s been more of a lifestyle shift that just a career move… and it feels fabulous. Forgive me if I haven’t firmed up my agenda plans for BlogHer.
2. You just got your ticket 2 weeks ago. I know, a lot of you have been preparing for BlogHer ’10 since BlogHer ’09, but I didn’t get my ticket until just a few weeks ago when I decided not to purchase the BlogHer Business pass my former employer bought for me. Yes, I still wanted to go. And yes, I have Devon over at Mama Cheaps to thank for helping me out in such a pinch.
3. You just decided you might need a hotel… 1 week ago. Or something like that. The original plan was to take a bus or train or whatever up to the city each day of the conference, but the more I thought about it, and the more I saw information about parties and BlogHer events, I wanted to be near the action… which is where I will be. Near the action, not in it because…
4. You’ve waited too long for everything and now you are on several wait lists – not guest lists. Here is a conversation I recently had in my head.
Me: You don’t need to RSVP for parties… meh, no one will notice if you slip in.
Head: Um, people will notice.
Me: Yeah, but I’m cute. I if people will notice, surely, no one will care!
Head: Um, you’re not that cute.
Me: Well, how do I go about RSVPing anyway? It’s too late.
Head: Um, everything is wait listed. You are late to the party- literally.
Me: Well, there’s always Crumbs Bakery. I’d rather eat cupcakes than go to parties anyway.
Truth? I do want to go to parties. I do want to share martinis with some of my favorite bloggers. Am I sweating it? Nope. After all, we’ll be in NYC. It’s NYC for crying out loud! There’s ALWAYS something to do.
5. You haven’t looked at the agenda… at all. I know Each day of the conference starts…. at 9ish? Well before typical New Yorkers start working… and I know there are… um, things that go on all day… but I have barely looked at the agenda. I know I’ll go to plenty of interesting and useful sessions… but I’ll probably pick and choose the night before.
6. You still have no business cards. For some reason, up until last week, I thought BlogHer ’10 was months away. It felt like August was months away. But it’s July. Time flies…right out the door, which where my money is going to go to pay for overnight shipping charges, I’m sure. I need to get on this.
7. You haven’t tweeted once about what to wear at BlogHer ’10. So, unless you’ve been tweeting under a rock, you’ve seen numerous tweets that looked something like this.
Is it too dressy to wear {insert item of clothing} to BlogHer?
Is anyone else wearing heels to BlogHer?
What is everyone wearing to parties at BlogHer?
I haven’t given an out of thought as to what I am going to wear tomorrow let alone 2 weeks from now.
And, by the way, have you ever been to New York in the summer? In 98 degree heat and humidity? Let me let you in on a little secret: It sucks. And even I have a hard time looking fabulous in the heat and humidity. So while I may not have a clue as to what I am going to wear, I am pretty sure these will describe my overall look: Black, Comfortable, Light and Black. After all, it is New York.
8. You know a total of 5 people that are going to BlogHer. I am looking so forward to meeting in person a few of my favorite blogging people – as well as reconnecting with some other ladies I’ve seen at other events… but aside from that? Not sure who else will be there.
I see a lot of people tweeting each other as though they’re best buds connecting at a long lost family reunion… which is awesome. But where are my people? Is there a master list somewhere? Because that would be super helpful right now.
9. When you think of BlogHer ’10, you think of shopping the shoe department at Macy’s. … or Century 21, or Sephora, or anywhere south of Houston… Yes, NYC is the city for shopping. And Macy’s has a great shoe department. A full floor of shoes that may or may not be on sale. Sure, it’s Macy’s. And yes, I have a few Macy’s near me at home, but the Macy’s in Herald Square is just so much… more. Trust me on this one.
10. You’re still trying to figure out how you’ll lose 30 pounds before August 5th. Because in real life, we’re all a lot skinnier, right? Exactly….

I didn’t just sign up for BlogHer, but I too am unprepared. Perhaps I’ll see you at Crumbs. At least I live in the neighborhood and can always go home to nap when I become overwhelmed. =)
@Fit Chick in the City, You live near Crumbs? Yes, we will have to have cupcakes and naps.
Hmm… yep. I am totally unprepared.
I hear it’s fun to just hang out in the lobby? lol
Colleen´s last blog ..Happy Birthday Mom!!!
@Colleen, I could do that!
HAHAHA!! I am with ya sister. The only think that I’ve done that you didn’t is business cards, that is because I already had them because I am a business before blogger. I have no clue about any of it so I hope to find some of my favorites to hang with on the out skirts of the parties since I waited to long so I hope I am not sipping cocktails alone in a dark corner with my high heels on and wearing black. BTW….I think Century 21 ROCKS and I WILL be checking out all 5 floors that weekend.
@Trina, Oh, I love Century 21… the store, not the real estate agency (which is what I thought it was for the longest time!)
You are my kindred spirit! It’s a fun opportunity to meet fellow bloggers, not a high school reunion! We’ll have to meet up. I’ll be easy to find…I’ll be the one with clearly NOT new clothes and shoes and business cards ordered online—and cheaply!

@Cheryl, So, we’ll match?
I bought in February, and I’m still completely unprepared, or at least I think I am. Who knows? I’m a newbie. What do I know?! Maybe I’m too prepared! AAAAAAAAAAA *runs screaming with arms in air*

@amethyst Moon, You can’t win!
Don’t worry — there are so many other people in the exact same boat. BlogHer is whatever you make it. The sessions alone are so great – and it’s easy to make friends with the person next to you – you already have something in common! BlogHer also has the open Friday and Saturday night parties — there is always something to do!
Have fun – I’m excited too!
Susan @WhyMommy´s last blog ..Briefly
Oh My…that’s me. So you think anyone will notice my extra 30lbs when I sneak into the parties. All us waitlisters need our own party.
@Janis @ Sneak Peek At Me, Um… yeah! So next year, wait list party… who’s in?
Crumbs is the only reason I’m going.
Okay, not really. But darn close.
@Rachel, It’s okay to admit it…
Um, I might be the 6th person you know who’s going, and judging by yr comments, maybe not the only person not exactly prepared. I don’t even have a ticket – just going to meet a few of my online peeps, then jetting (training doesn’t have the same ring to it) back home. I might even look at MOMA for god’s sake. I’ll be looking for you!
PS I guess my white jeans wouldn’t be smart for NYC?? Yeah, thought so.
Kirsten´s last blog ..Nothing new under the Sun
@Kirsten, Oh, you have to DM me your cell so we can meet up! Would love to see you and Jennifer too!
Well, I’m going, with that poster right above me. So there’s another person you “know.” I think you’ll feel better if you read my “things you need to know before blogher” list. Really. You’ll feel MUCH better.

Cheryl @ Mommypants´s last blog ..That was SOME party!
@Cheryl @ Mommypants, I did read that post before…. and it so didn’t help me. I still need “the” dress.
I woke up this morning slightly freaking out that it’s next week.
blueviolet´s last blog ..Dont Leave Me Lookin That Way
@blueviolet, Um, yeah… me too!
Girl I am totally jealous of everyone going to Blogher especially since its so close to us! booooo
@Tina @ Life Without Pink, And why are you not going?
I feel totally unprepared! Hopefully, I’ll be able to pull myself together between now and August 4. We definitely have to meet up on the 5th.
@Jennifer, For sure! We’ll catch up then.
I’m not going to BlogHer. I know two people who are, and you are one of them. I think if there was a way to get a ticket at this point I might reconsider going to the dog show with my daughter–the weather isn’t all that great for dog shows. Oh, well…I have the Philly Bloggy Boot Camp to look forward to, and forty pounds to lose for that.
@Michele – The Professional Family Manager, Dog shows… BlogHer… In a sense, it’s kind of all the same, no?
You know I live NJ, so I know ALL about the Macy’s Herald Square and you’re absolutely right that is is not like other Macy’s stores. It just such a bigger and better selection.
Good luck navigating BlogHer and good luck shopping. Catch you at BCC in September!
@SaucyB, Oh, Macy’s is so choice… See you in Sept!
I will meet you at Crumbs! : )
Catherine Calhoun´s last blog ..The Tour de France and Testicular Cancer
@Catherine Calhoun, So there!
Now that it is sold out and a week away, I want to go and have been trying to figure out how.
The how that is going to work, is next year.
@Jen, Well, maybe we’ll plan ahead and be roomies.
Dude. A whole floor of shoes? I may never leave. And if you find your people, can I steal some? You and a few others are all the people I’ve got!
But we’ll be fine. It’ll be awesome. Party invites will magically appear. Spectacular times will be had. And the shoes we buy will be so awesome, no one will notice those 30 extra pounds.
Or so I told the sobbing self who still couldn’t fit into her size 12 jeans yesterday.
TWELVE! Not eight, but TWELVE!
Gah. Think we could get emergency lipo while we’re there?
amber´s last blog ..Who Are All You People- Anyway
@amber, No, seriously, Macy’s is a must-see for a lady from the midwest. Must. See.
But at least you registered, correctamundo? One of these days I will a) register with BlogHer and b) attend one of their convos. One of these days. And I totally agree with you about Macy’s flagship store!
Melissa B.´s last blog ..Race to the Top
@Melissa B., I am registered!
I’m going too! And I couldn’t get into anything either! Because *I* am just like you! (except for my excessive use of exclamation points and words beginning in e)
I am going to send along my digits. We can hang together. (please hang with me even if I border on obscene with my use of parentheses. I would say ‘pornographic use of parentheses’ but then we’re back at that annoying alliteration thing again.)
jen´s last blog ..Summer Fun- Harvest
This will be my first BlogHer. I’m not a blogger (I will be at the event with Walmart) but I have some of the same questions and concerns–especially what to wear! I’m from California so I am nervous about the humidity–I arrived today and melted as soon as I got off the plane. Still, I can’t wait to meet everyone and finally meet some old friends face to face!
I am excited to meet people too. It’s so funny, we spend so much time online, but when it comes down to it, it’s all about social interaction… in real life.
