While I adore the iPhone, the battery life is just not where I would like it to be.After a little googling, I found 5 easy-to-do tweaks to your settings that will help improve your battery life.
Dim your screen
Go to “Settings” and “Brightness.” Move the blue dot to 1/4 of the bar. It took a little adjusting to my new, dimmer screen, but now I don’t notice it being a little darker.
Turn off your Wi-Fi when you are not using it
Your iPhone will automatically search out for Wi-Fi networks if the factory pre-set is not changes. Go to “Settings” and “Wi-Fi” to turn it off. If you have 3G network, your iPhone will use that to connect to the internet. If I know I am in a Wi-Fi hotspot, and I am planning to use my phone a lot, I will turn the Wi-Fi setting to on.
One word of warning: If you are traveling internationally, depending on what type of package you have, you might want to stick with the Wi-Fi on “On.” I’ve read about people being charged “Roaming data” fees at huge amounts because they didn’t know their plan didn’t cover international usage.
Let your battery cycle down at least once a month
Apple suggests because of the battery type, you should let it completely run out of juice before charging it at least once a month. Put a reminder on your iCal app to do so. It will help extend the battery life.
Turn off the Bluetooth setting
When you aren’t using it, or if you don’t have Bluetooth at all, turn the setting to off.
Turn off push notifications
Unless you need to know every time someone e-mails you, or you get a new Facebook notification, make sure your data push notifications are off in their application’s settings. Also, try to only Fetch new data once an hour.
There you go. Simple tools to extend the battery life of your iPhone. I can use my phone all day without needing a charge. If you have other tips to improve battery life, please leave them in the comments below.

Great tips! I’m not sure if I can turn off Push, though. I love that little vibrate every time I get an email.
@Carabee, Wow… um… I guess we learned a little MORE about Carabee didn’t we?
I missed you Saturday…boo
Thanks for the tips! My iPhone battery would probably last a little longer if I didn’t have a certain toddler fighting me all day to play on his toddler apps.
I’ve also heard that turning off Location services helps, too.
@Joanne @ Barely Domestic Mama, Plus when you turn off the location services they can’t find you! Bonus Mommy Time!
I laughed when I read this post, it reminded me of Saturday night at bootcamp. I really enjoyed meeting you this weekend and look forward to running into you again hopefully in Philly. I’ll be following you and adding you to my blogroll.
hugs,
Kim
@Kim, I wrote this BECAUSE of that conversation at boot camp!
I can’t wait to see Kat’s Apron!
Loved meeting you this weekend! So glad to have another blogging friend in the area. Look forward to getting together soon!!
@Tina @ Life Without Pink, I can’t bring myself to call myself a Jersey Girl, but saying it here would be appropriate…
See you soon!
Only rich people own iPhones.
Will you buy me one?
@Mama Kat, Oh, but I realized if I don’t buy groceries every month, we can afford the iPhones!
Try it!
@e, Brilliant!!!! The kids don’t need to EAT! I’m totally trying this….and I’ll try not to spend that extra money on clothes that make me look fabulous.
Must. Buy. Iphone.
I’m keeping note of these for when I get my iphone.
How was bloggy bootcamp>?
PS. When did you get the makeover? It’s fab.
@angie, Bloggy Boot Camp was great…Wish you could have been there!
@angie, And the fab makeover… from Shauna! She is awesome! Still tweaking some things here and there… but great recommendation!
