Eight Ways to Feel Fabulous Fast

by e on January 24, 2010

Oh, the hum drum of winter. Cold rainy days, sunsets that still come too soon, and a winter wardrobe that has been picked over too many times can get a gal down.

Spring isn’t too far away, and if you need a little spring in your step to get you through the next couple of months, try one of these tips to feel fabulous fast.

1. Lipstick. There’s nothing like the feeling of getting a new tube of lipstick, bringing it home and opening it for the first time. The smell takes me back to the days of playing in my Mom’s make up drawer. As soon as it glides on I feel transformed.

2. Date Night. Date night is a chance to connect with someone – or yourself – over an activity you love to do. I’m looking forward to getting dressed up to go to the movies and dinner very soon.

3. Red Wine. Or white, or whatever. Something about a nice Cabernet Savignon or Pinot Noir really sets the tone for a cold evening indoors. Winter says mulled spices; Spring says Margaritas.

4. A run in the cold. I enjoy running outside and to me? Nothing beats the crisp winter air on an early morning run. Humid and heat? Not so much. Take in the air, enjoy the smells because soon the air will turn damp and green with spring showers and new sprouts.

5. A new winter coat. After the holidays come the sales. Stores want your post-holiday money, and what better way to spend it and get through the winter than with a nice, new, warm winter coat. You’ll look forward to wearing it.

6. Get crafty. Winter is the time to get started on knitting projects. I mean, do you want to be knitting and crocheting during the summer? Nope. Besides, you want to wear the scarves you knit. Check out Knit Purl Girl for some inspiration.

7. Color your hair sunshine. One of my favorite tricks to helping with the winter blahs is coloring my hair a summery blonde, or getting highlights to remind myself of the beach. Skip the tanning booths though. You don’t want to look wrinkly before June.

8. Donate. Undoubtedly the world has seen a lot of suffering over the past few weeks. Please donate what you can to the people of Haiti. Right now, they need money and prayers. Every little bit counts. Visit Hope for Haiti Now orĀ  the Red Cross to help.

Lipstick. Yes. Date night. Yes. Knitting? Sorry, I can’t go there with you.

@amber, Oh, but I think Tori needs some cute knit caps!

Thank you for the reminder that it doesn’t take a whole lot to feel fabulous! (And all of your ideas are spot-on!) I’d crochet instead of knit though…knitting needles and I don’t get along. :-)

@Michele, I am a crochet-er too! But knitting is my first love :)

You just had to mention margaritas…didn’t you? Oh 5 o’clock, my friend, where are you?

e January 25, 2010 at 2:09 pm

@Katy, Didn’t you hear that Monday at 2 pm is the new 5 o’clock???

Seriously, though, totally with you!
