Can I still use the babe as an excuse for my flab?

by e on January 5, 2010

So, I am wondering, for how long  - when subliminally making excuses for my still-flabby post-preggo body – can I work into conversations that I *just* had a baby?

Here is what got me thinking. I was subbing a Spinning class for a co-worker, and I didn’t know anyone in the class. In my normal class, everyone knows me and knows I recently had a baby, thus, preventing me from making excuse for my flabby ass and jello belly.

But here I was, a Spinning sub who obviously doesn’t look like a fitness instructor. My introduction went like this:

Hi everybody! My name is Erica, and I am subbing for Tom, who will be back next week… great, so, I just had a baby and that’s why I look like this…. Let’s ride!

I mean, really didn’t introduce myself like this, but it’s what I wanted to say. Still, while talking with some people after class I did manage to work in that I just had a baby.

Oh, how old is she? Yeah, she is almost 9 months. I know you were expecting me to say something like “She’s 6 weeks!” and then you would tell me how great I look for just having a baby, but instead, it is kinda awkward now because she is 9 months old and this baby weight should be gone by now… Hmm. I realize that.

So, did I really just have a baby?  How long can I use that excuse? How long did you use that excuse? Please take my poll below!

Ha! I vote we get a year. A year isn’t unreasonable, right? What those peops should have been saying is, “damn, she’s got a nine-month-old and she finds time to teach spinning classes? She rocks!”

I think “when your done having kids” is even more acceptable… I mean, if we are blessed with another, all that hard work puts me back at square one, no?

I just got married and haven’t had any kids yet, but I say wait until you’ve finished, that way you can just work it all off at once :)

Um? there’s a time limit?! I’m still using that excuse. It’s only been, 15 years! Give me a break, I still have time!

@Amethyst Moon, Okay, I am with you on the “no time limit” thing… but my heiny needs to get in half marathon shape by April!
